During the first round polls, Michelle Bachelet (socialista) received 46% of the vote, so close to the majority vote which would have automatically given her the position of president. I think her strongest opponent was Sebastian Piñera, but he only received some 20% although he was the runner up. I don't remember. Both Bachelet and Piñera and other dude (Lavin something or other) all pretty much had the same campaigning promises: to work on urban crime, unemployment, public health, and housing and education services.
The run off elections were fairly close! Bachelet won 53.45% of the vote which was enough to win win win! I really didn't think Piñera would get as much as he did (46.5%). All I know is, Bachelet totally deserves it. Next time I visit Chile, GET READY TO MEET ME, MICHELLE!
She's going to do one heck of a job. Thumbs up to you, too, presidente!
